Retraction F = P x (ABORE - AROD)

Rod Diameter = 0.75 in Rod Area = 0.442 in2 Retraction Net Area = 0.785 in2

 

Static Friction (breakaway) and Dynamic Friction (running drag) of the Air Cylinders is dependent on several parameters. These include: stroke length, ambient temperature, orientation, o-ring seal type, mounted alignment. A basic rule of thumb for a horizontally mounted unpinned / unloaded cylinder is ~5 psi to breakaway and ~3 psi to sustain motion.
